Personally, I think the cranberry-pineapple sauce actually complements them better, but the chunky apples are good in a pinch. (Cinnamon cream cheese would also be good!)
Chunky Apple Sauce
Slightly adapted from The Big Book of Breakfasts by Maryana Vollstedt
Ingredients
- ~700g apples
- 1/4 c. water
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
- dash (~1/16 tsp.) of ground cloves
- dash (~1/16 tsp.) of ground nutmeg
- a few grinds of salt
Directions
- Peel, core, and slice apples.
- Combine apples, water, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender (20-30 minutes).
